A 14 year old male child present to us with complaints of sudden loss of vision in both eyes for 2 days. He gave a past history of fever for 25 days and bleeding per rectum after 7 days of onset of fever.
He was diagnosed as dengue elsewhere (qualitative IgG ELISA and NS1 antigen were positive). On examination his visual acuity was counting fingers close to face in both eyes (BE), right eye had RAPD. Rest of anterior segment examination was unremarkable. Fundus BE showed vitreous hemorrhage, subretinal hemorrhage and retinal detachment. B scan both eyes was suggestive of hemorrhagic retinal detachment. Blood counts were advised and were as following, Hb – 5.3gm%. TLC – 7910 cells/cu:mm DLC – P63 L34 E3, Platelet – 9000 cells/cu:mm.
The patient was referred to a multispecialty hospital for management of his hematological parameters. He was asked to review once the systemic condition becomes stable. The patient was lost to follow up after that (patient expired).
