Aim: Comparative analysis of optic disc with fundus photograph & HD-OCT in cases of amblyopia
Methods: Consecutive comparative analysis of 10 amblyopic patients who presented to our OPD for their complete eye examination which included optic disc photography & HD-OCT, RNFL thickness, optic disc area & central macular thickness (CMT) & were evaluated for location of the central retinal vessels & compared for symmetry between the two eyes. Results: In this pilot study more of amblyopic patients had anomalous optic disc vasculature & those with amblyopia exceeding 1.5 diopters had these anomalies compared to the group without amblyopia.
Conclusions: These disc anomalies may be associated with disorganization of optic nerve axons indicating possibility of a peripheral cause for impaired vision & could provide an explanation for the variability in visual defects associated with amblyopia. Thus optic nerve imaging with HD-OCT should be incorporated for amblyopia research.
