Background:Myasthenia gravis,commonly considered an autoimmune disorder from a pathophysiological basis,lags other disciplines in the evidence base used to make clinical decisions.Ocular myasthenia is of common occurrence.Popularly known tensilon is not available,this small case series shows the efficacy of ice test and neostigmine test in clinical diagnosis of myasthenia.
Methods:8 patients (13 eyes) clinically suspicious of myasthenia by typical history and clinical features of ocular myasthenia were diagnosed using ice test (2 min) and then neostigmine test (0.5mg IV).Based on positive results of neostigmine test,these patients were given oral pyridostigmine and corticosteroids. Clinical and symptomatological improvements were seen in all of them when followed up for 6 months.
Conclusion:Confirmation of clinical diagnosis continues to be challenging for ocular myasthenia.Thus simple clinical tests serve the purpose.
