Aim: To study the long term visual outcome of corrective surgery for choroidal coloboma.

Method: Retrospective study conducted in a tertiary eye care hospital of 37 patients with retinal detachments & complicated cataract related to choroidal coloboma from 2005 to 2015. The data was collected from Hospital data base on a standard format & analysed by SPSS 22. 16 eyes underwent pars plana vitrectomy along with surgery for cataract. The main outcome measures were visual recovery & relationship with age.

Results: There were 37 eyes with 17(46%) OD & 20(54%) OS. The preoperative BCVA improved from 3/60 or less in 34(92%) to 6/60 or better in 14(40.4%) postoperatively. 6(17.2%) patients achieved BCVA of 6/12 to 6/6 which was significant statistically (P<0.03). The visual outcome was not related to the presenting age of the patient (P<0.289).

Conclusion: Pars plana vitrectomy with or without cataract surgery for cataract related to choroidal coloboma improves the long-term visual outcome.
