Purpose: To compare the hypotensive outcome of manual small incision cataract surgery and trabeculectomy (SICS-TRAB) with trabeculectomy. Method: Sixty patients of primary open angle glaucoma with cataract were randomly divided into two groups. Thirty eyes underwent SICS-TRAB and another 30 eyes underwent trabeculectomy. IOP was measured at 1 wk, 1month and 3 months. Result: The mean IOP reduction was significantly less in SICS-TRAB than Trab group (p=.019) at 3 months. Surgical success achieved was 86.6% versus 96.6% respectively at 3 months. Conclusion: Trabeculectomy is a more effective procedure to control IOP than SICS -TRAB in patients of POAG with cataract.
