PURPOSE: To describe our initial experience & evaluate the outcome of 23G vitrectomy.

METHOD: Single center retrospective chart review of 143 consecutive 23Gvitrectomy cases done from Jan‘14 to Nov‘15. Outcome measured include visual success, anatomical success & complications at 6th month

OBSERVATION: Visual improvement was seen in 80.64%with early surgery(≤week)&in 51.42%with late surgery (>3month).BCVA ≥6/24 was seen in 43.75%of early as compared to 22.22%in late surgery(p-0.05). Anatomical success achieved in 88.23%of DR, 75%of RRD, 89.28%of phacofrag& 86.95%of other. But visual success achieved is highest in RRD(90%). Complication rate was highest in DR(52.94%) while36.67% in RRD.Redetachment was in 13.98%, progressive cataract in 41.03%(more with oil), glaucoma in 4.89%&VH in8%.

CONCLUSION: 23G vitrectomy is safe & effective with enhanced patient comfort , early rehabilitation. With greater experience, the outcome may still improve and indications likely to expand.
