PURPOSE: To describe our initial experience & evaluate the outcome of patients treated with 23G vitrectomy for RRD.
METHOD: Single center retrospective chart review of 60 consecutive 23G vitrectomy cases done from Jan 2014 to Nov 2015. Main outcome measured include visual success, anatomical success & complications at 6th month.
OBSERVATION: Visual success in early surgery(≤week) is 94.44% & ≥6/24 BCVA achieved in 35%cases. Superior tear showed improved vision in 97.3%, BCVA ≥6/24 in 37.84% & settled retina in 89.19%as compared to 81.25%, 12.50% & 43.75% respectively in inferior tear(p<0.05). 20% showed off retina, 6.6% showed glaucoma & 10%showed progressive cataract. No patient showed hypotony/endophthalmitis. Out of 60 cases, 34(56.32%) showed no causative factor, 11(18.33%) showed lattice & 12(20%) showed pcotomy.
CONCLUSION: 23G vitrectomy for repair of primary RRD has shown to have good anatomical success rate with no postoperative complications like hypotony/endophthalmitis.
