Dr. Hemalatha B C, H09468

Internuclear ophthalmoplegia is a syndrome which develops due to a lesion of the
medial longitudinal fasciculus. The most common etiology for INO being multiple sclerosis or cerebrovascular diseases, head trauma is known for rarity. Traumatic INO is typically self-limited and bilateral. The time of recovery of MLF function ranges between 48 hours and 1 year after the injury in the reported cases. We report an unsual case of reversible unilateral isolated internuclear ophthalmoplegia ,following head injury .It resolved completely by 3 months and upto1 year followup thereafter .
Results :A 26 year old male with history closed head injury ,diagnosed with unilateral posterior type internuclear ophthalmoplegia complained of diploplia on looking sideways . His convergence was normal. MRI shows A small focus of hypointense haemorrhagic lesion in brainstem noted.
