Dr. Anju Jose, Dr. Waheeda Nazir, Dr. Vasumathi Kannabiran

Congenital eyelid imbrication syndrome(CEIS) is an extremely rare, benign, self-limiting eyelid malposition disorder. The classic triad of signs in patients with a CEIS consists of bilateral upper eyelids overriding the lower eyelids, bilateral medial and lateral canthal tendon laxity & tarsal conjunctival hyperemia. CEIS is extremely rare with only 4 previously reported cases.

A 2 days old infant presented with overriding of both upper eyelids over lower lids by 4mm & spontaneous eversion of both upper lids on crying. Medial & lateral canthal tendons of both upper lids were lax and round. Both upper lids were easily everted on gentle pulling. There was hyperemia of upper tarsal conjunctiva.
Child was managed conservatively with antibiotic & lubricating eye drops. Complete resolution of all signs & symptoms was noted in 2 months.
