FP515 : Awareness About Cataract Related Information Among Hospital Employees in A Tertiary Care Centre

PURPOSE:To assess awareness about cataract related information among hospital employees in a Tertiary Care Centre.

METHOD:Cross-sectional, non-interventional, Questionnaire based study. Questionnaire has 30 questions related to cataract including management; types of cataract surgery; intraocular lenses (IOL); complications.

RESULTS:391 subjects (111 doctors and 280 other hospital staff) were enrolled. Mean correct answers for doctors was 20.51+4.41 and for other staff was 15.27+7.53. 10.81 % doctors and 42.86% other staff answered >50% questions incorrectly. Preference for any type of cataract surgery and IOL was not given by 40.54% doctors and 78.93% other staff. 33.06% subjects with history of cataract surgery in family and 37.83% without such history marked >50% questions incorrectly.

CONCLUSION:There is lack of awareness about cataract related information in hospital staff despite working in a tertiary care centre. There is need to spread awareness about cataract and related issue
