Introduction: Retinitis pigmentosa is the most common hereditary fundus dystrophy affecting rods. Common associations with retinitis pigmentosa include epiretinal membrane, cystoid macular edema (CME), posterior subcapsular cataract are common associations. Materials and methods: A 37 year old male presented with gradual diminution of vision over 6 months associated with nyctalopia since early adulthood. Fundus examination was suggestive of retinitis pigmentosa, with left eye cystoid macular edema confirmed with Optical coherence tomography (OCT). He was started on oral acetazolamide 250mg thrice a day. Results: Patient was reviewed after 1 week, OCT showed decrease in macular edema though visual acuity remained same. Conclusion: Retinitis pigmentosa affects peripheral vision but central vision may be compromised in presence of CME. CME in retinitis pigmentosa responds to carbonic anhydrase inhibitors and intravitreal steroids. The role of anti VEG F agents are yet to be investigated.
