The present study was conducted on 40 patients of painful PBK divided in to 2 groups of 20 each. Group A patients underwent debridement of corneal epithelium followed by fresh amniotic membrane transplantation(AMT) while group B patients underwent anterior stromal puncture(ASP) using tip of a 26-guage needle followed by bandage contact lens. Visual analogue score( VAS ) for pain assessment was estimated before and after the procedure. At the end of the study period of 12 weeks VAS was Grade 1 in 70% patients in both groups ( None had VAS Grade 1 in either group before procedure ) and Grade 2 in 25% and 15% in group A and group B respectively. Complete regression of bullae was observed in 80% and 85% cases in group A and group B respectively. Corneal surface regularity was maintained in 80% cases in group A and only in 25% cases in group B. So, concluded that both AMT and ASP are equally effective procedures for amelioration of symptoms in symptomatic PBK with poor visual potential
