Glasses for children is dreaded by parents as they find it hard to believe that a small child would need to wear glasses. But they need to be counseled on the importance of doing so if and when it is deemed necessary to prescribe. Of prime importance is that the prescription for children is different from an adult and here comes the pivotal role of a pediatric ophthalmologist. One needs to keep in mind the problems while determining visual acuity of the child, the visual demands, and their more proximal working distance considering that they have a plastic visual system with risk of strabismus and amblyopia which is modifiable. In this course we would deal with assessment of the need of spectacles for the child and a practical approach for prescribing spectacles for hyperopia, myopia, anisometropia, astigmatism with/without strabismus in different age groups of children. We would lay more stress on the prescription for pre school age group and strategies for preventing
progression of Myopia.
