IC513 – SURGERY FOR RETINAL DETACHMENT : ELUCIDATION OF EACH TECHNIQUE AND STEP – WHY AND HOW ?

Dr. Dinesh Talwar [T04464] – New Delhi

The management of retinal detachment has evolved over the past three decades. A wide variety of techniques is today available in our therapeutic armamentarium ranging from Pneumatic retinopexy to vitreoretinal surgery with gas or silicone oil endotamponade. Vitreoretinal surgery can be combined with scleral buckling, gas
tamponade or silicon oil tamponade. Pneumatic retinopexy or Scleral buckling could also be used as stand alone procedures. The objective of the course is to highlight the role of different techniques in different clinical situations and discuss the rationale for each step of each of the techniques, so that the delegates achieve an in depth understanding of the physiological basis of the combination of steps that they are performing. This would help the delegates to maximize their outcomes by appropriate use of different permutations of the available surgical procedures.
