Purpose: To evaluate the safety and clinical outcomes of phacoemulsification in patients with non-communicating corneal tear with anterior capsule rupture with traumatic cataract with capsular tear extending beyond pupillary margin.
Methods: A 25 years old male presented with a history of penetrating injury in his left eye around 4 days back. On examination his life had partially healed corneal tear (about 2 mm) with anterior capsule rupture with traumatic cataract. The lateral extension of anterior capsule tear was not visible in mid dilated pupil. Results: Phacoemulsification of injured eye was done with modified parameters and Acrysof single piece IOL (Alcon Laboratories, Inc) was implanted in capsular bag with a modified technique. Corneal tear suturing also done. Day 1 post op vision was 20/60. At 3 months UDVA was 20/20.
Conclusion: Phacoemulsification can be tried in selective cases of non-communicating corneal tear with anterior capsule rupture with traumatic cataract. Our case had a normal B scan reports and no vitreous i
