VT43-STEPWISE MANAGEMENT OF CONGENITAL CATARACT

Aim: To evaluate visual outcome following stepwise comprehensive management of congenital cataract. Methods: First step was lensectomy using 20/23G vitrectomy probe in all patients presented under one year. Above 1 year, patients were operated by anterior approach with primary posterior capsulotomy. The second step was optical rehabilitation with aphakic glasses. Third step was to manage secondary cataracts by membranectomy. Fourth step was secondary implant in form of PMMA or three piece foldable lenses after age of 2 years. Fifth step was amblyopic management with patching and refractive corrections. Last step was strabismus management. Conclusion: Comprehensive stepwise management improved visual outcome.
