VT79 – Pediatric Cataract Surgery After Delayed Presentation

Childhood blindness is a priority area for VISION 2020 as it’s an important cause (3%) of avoidable blindness worldwide. Aim- presenting clinical features, surgical complications during surgical procedure adopted in delayed presentation of NEGLECTED PEDIARTIC CATARACTS.

Method- Interventional Video based case series from a tertiary tribal eye care centre showing pre-& post-operative details & surgical aspects in neglected Pediatric cataracts. Pediatric cataract presents with various morphology in remote areas due to unawareness & delayed presentation. Such cataracts undergo degenerative changes in lens. Management of such neglected cataracts remains a challenge. In this video, we discuss various clinical presentation, surgical procedure by anterior and posterior approach, main emphasis on challenges faced & tackling such complication during surgery.

Conclusion: Though Surgery for cataracts with delayed presentation put some challenges, but helps to regain functional vision.
