VT86 – Phacoemulsification in posterior polar cataract with pre-existing posterior capsular rent(PCR)

Dr.Shefali Shah, Optom.Vitan Joshi

Patient presented with posterior polar cataract with pre-existing posterior capsular rent, was operated under peribulbulbar anaesthesia. Debulking of the grade 2 nucleus done. Viscodissection of the nucleus done. Gradually nucleus and epinucleus were removed layer by layer; avoiding sudden collapse of anterior chamber. Cortical wash done with irrigation aspiration cannula. PCR extended with vitreous prolapse. Automated anterior vitrectomy done with the cutter 3 piece foldable intraocular lens (IOL)was injected into the sulcus under continuous injection of 2% hydroxyl propyl methyl cellulose. The IOL optic was then captured in the rhexis margin.
