VT91 – Repair of lower lid coloboma- Recreating the lid

Dr.(lt Col ) Nitin Vasant Vichare

Lower lid coloboma is rare compared to upper lid defect. Repair of lid coloboma requires closure of defect with adequate mobilization of lid so that closure is without tension. 18 months old child brought with lower lid coloboma associated with soft tissue cleft involving the same side nose. This oro- orbital facial cleft was not associated with underlying bony defect. Associated with it was a small notch involving medial 1/3 of upper lid. Repair of lower lid coloboma was done with mobilization of lower lid by Tenzel semicircular flap. Adequate closure was attained with good post operative result.
