Purpose: To compare defocus curve (DC) and contrast sensitivity (CS) measurements in subjects implanted with aspheric IOLs.
Methods: Eyes undergoing cataract extraction were implanted with Hoya (H) or Acrysof IQ (IQ) aspheric IOL. Defocus curves between −4.0 and +4.0 diopter (D) were evaluated using direct comparison method (DCM). Photopic and Scotopic CS was measured using Pelli-Robson CS chart.
Results: 22 eyes of 20 patients and 22 eyes of 14 patients were implanted with H- and IQ-IOL respectively. Mean (SD) age of subjects were 58.9 (7.8) and 64.5 (10.9) years in H- and IQ-IOL respectively. DC indicated that T-IOL group performed statistically significantly better for lenses from +4.0D to +2.0D and for lenses -3.5D, -3.00D, -2.00D to -0.50D (p<0.05). Both IOLs performed similarly for rest of the dioptric values (p>0.05). Photopic and Scotopic CS was similar among two groups (P>0.05).
Conclusions: Overall visual quality was better for Acrysof IQ IOL group compared to Hoya group
