The purpose of the retrospective study was to evaluate the characteristics of eyes with posteriorly dislocated lens fragments during cataract surgery and to assess the outcomes of the management in 32 eyes during a period of 2 years. The complication occurred in 19 cases of manual small incision cataract surgery,16(84.2%) of which occurred during nucleus prolapse and in 13 cases of phacoemulsification,10(76.9%)of which occurred during emulsification. It included 18 cases(56.2%) of hard cataract. Pars plana vitrectomy was done in 18 cases on the same day and 13 cases after 1 day. Post operative complications like vitreous haemorrhage, choroidal detachment were seen in 14 cases(43.7%). Raised IOP after vitrectomy was noted in 6 cases. There was a positive correlation (p<0.0001) between early timing of vitrectomy and post operative visual acuity. We conclude that early vitreo retinal intervention can have favorable visual outcomes in these cases.
