FP1810 : Results of Small Incision Cataract Surgery for One-Eyed Patients Screened At Outreach Rural Camps

PURPOSE:To show improvement in Best Corrected Visual Acuity in One-eyed patients after SICS and the absence of complications

METHODS:Retrospective analysis of 23 one-eyed patients who underwent SICS.2 were excluded from the study.(lost to follow-up).Patients were operated at a tertiary eye hospital between June 2012 and April 2013.

RESULTS:Female: Male 14: 7 i.e. 2: 1 Age- 45 to 85 years Surgical Section : Temporal tunnel- 39.13% Superior tunnel- 60.86% Cataract grade •MSC- 26.08% •NS4-5 – 8.69% •NS3- 8.69% •NS2- 52.17% •NS1- 4.04% IOL power 19.0 to 25.50 D Pre –op. BCVA : PL to FCF 39.13% , 1/60 to 5/60 39.13 % and 6/60 to 6/24 21.73 % .Post-op. BCVA : 6/12 to 6/6 56.52 % , 6/24 to 6/18 30.43 %, 6/60 4.34 % and HM 8.69 %.Data was applied in statistical analysis(paired t test- two tailed ).Result is significant at p<0.05.

CONCLUSION:Marked improvement in BCVA in one eyed patients with no complications. Proper aseptic precautions with weekly culture in OT &and pre-op.Conjunctival swab
