This retrospective study describes the clinical spectrum and clinicopathological correlation of patients with epithelial iris implantation cysts. Clinical profiles, surgical details, treatment outcomes, histopathology records of 31 cases of implantation cysts from 1989-2015 were evaluated. Median age at presentation was 5 years. Average follow-up was 14.37 months after surgery. Iris cysts were due to trauma (17), unknown (13), prior surgery (1). All underwent cyst excision with additional surgical procedures done where necessary. Mean range of follow-up was 1 month to 6 years after surgery. Mean preoperative and final logMAR visual acuity was 1.3 and 1.15 respectively. Complications were corneal decompensation (4), secondary glaucoma (4), and severe uveitis (1). We conclude that epithelial iris implantation cysts are associated with significant ocular morbidity. Complete excision of cyst with sector iridectomy can result in an excellent functional outcome with minimal complications.
