AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To study the Incidence, Risk factors and Associated microbial isolates of Non healing corneal ulcers.
MATERIALS AND METHOD: This prospective study was conducted on 224 patients with corneal ulcers. Systemic and ocular examination was done in details. Microbiological examination of corneal scraping material, syringing of NLD, routine blood, urine and stool examinations were done. Treatment was given accordingly.
RESULTS AND OBSERVATIONS: The incidence rate of non healing corneal ulcers is 26.92%. Age >60 yrs (51.67%), agriculture as profession (51.67%), Trauma with paddy leaf (53.33%), late presentation (81.67%), 20 glaucoma (76.67%), ulcer size and location and few other factors were found as risk factors. Smear positivity was 61.67% with fungi (62.2%) and bacteria (37.8%) as isolates. S.aureus (42.8%) and Aspergillus spp (60.86%) were the main isolates.
CONCLUSION: Non healing corneal ulcers are difficult to treat and most often leads to grievous loss of vision. Knowing the risk factors and microbial isolates can
