FP126 : Corneal Manifestations Signalling Systemic Diseases

Introduction Corneal manifestations can bring attention to some serious systemic ailments. Practitioners faced with various clinical signs affecting the cornea should be aware of its systemic associations .

Methodology : We report 7 cases, where patient presented to us with corneal manifestations which on complete work up led to the diagnosis of rare and serious systemic diseases. The corneal signs included Epithelial defects, Peripheral keratitis, Posterior Polymorphous Dystophy, Phlyctenular Keratoconjunctivitis, and pre senile arcus. On complete ophthalmologic and systemic work up the diagnosis of Epidermolysis bullosa , Rhuematoid Arthritis, Alports syndrome ,Pulmonary tuberculosis and hypercholesterolemia was made.

Conclusion : Corneal findings can be a clue to systemic diseases. Appropriate systemic investigations and timely referral can help in early diagnosis and proper ophthalmic and systemic management of the patient as a whole.
