INTRODUCTION:The purpose of this study was to study the efficacy of using fibrin glue in place of sutures during conjunctival autograft surgery for primary pterygium.
MATERIALS AND METHOD:A prospective study,40 patients with primary pterygium attending Hospital were included.Patients were devided into 2 groups,both underwent pterygium excision with conjunctival autograft.One group graft was fixed with 10-0 monofilament nylon suture and in another with fibrin glue.The patients were evaluated post operatively.Data was collected and analyzed.
DISCUSSION:The improvement in astigmatism and BCVA was comparable in the two groups but not statistically significant.Recurrence occured in 3 patients after suture fixated autograft and no recurrence occurred after fibrin glue fixated autograft which was statistically significant.
CONCLUSION:Technique of fibrin glue for fixation of conjunctival autograft in primary pterygium is found to be better than suture in reducing symptoms and recurrence rate.
