FP841 : Sudden Expansion of Benign Orbital Tumour with Grave Sequel

Dr. Nidhi Pandey, P18091, Dr. Debarati Saha

A 37 year old male patient presented with right globe subluxation with Corneoscleral melt and diffuse mass in the superomedial orbit prolapsing through the upper fornix as a reddish mass.patient gave history of right eye protrusion since 6 months with sudden exacerbation since 15 days. His right eye was Pl negative and CT showed a well-defined isodense oval extraconal mass occupying the entire superomedial orbit .A lid split anterior orbitotomy was done and mass excised alongwith enucleation with myconjunctival technique with 18 mm PMMA implant. The histopathology and immunohistochemistry confirmed the mass as Schwannoma .Schwannoma constitute approximately 1 % of orbital tumours and are known to be slow growing and benign associated commonly with neurofibromatosis.Such aggressive course over a few weeks leading to globe subluxation is a rare finding and is attributed to the degeneration within the tumour that lead to its rapid expansion.
