Orbital hemangiopericytomas are rare tumors with the incidence ranging from 1% to 1.5% in very large orbital series. The diagnosis of hemangiopericytoma cannot be made with certainty on clinical or radiological evaluation and requires histologic confirmation.
Materials and methods ; A twenty seven year old female presented with a slow growing mass in the left lower lid since 2 months. The mass was 3 cm × 2 cm firm, non-tender, and not fixed to underlying tissues. Tumor excision with lid reconstruction was done under local anaesthesia. Specimen sent for histopathological examination.
Results : Histopathological sections studied show tumour composed of vascular channels, some showing staghorn appearance lined by benign endothelial cells. These are surrounded by many spindle cells with elongated nuclei and moderate cytoplasm resembling pericytes. Mitotic activity is not increased. Suggestive of haemangiopericytoma.
