Dr. Jignesh Gosai, G10587, Pratik Arvindkumar Modi

Cysticercus cellulose, a larval stage of Taenia solium can present intraocularly as an intravitreal cyst.Cysticercosis can lead to uveitis, retinal hemorrhages, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, retinal detachment, disc edema, cyclitic membrane formation and phthisis.

A 60 year old female presented to us with chief complain of decreased vision. Subjective correction of both eyes was 6/6. On fundus examination, OS vitreous cyst was found which was confirmed by B-scan measuring 5.31x 4.68 mm with fine scolex floating freely in the vitreous cavity without any vitritis. No changes were observed after a course of oral albendazole and corticosteroids. It’s been 2 years the patient has been kept on observation with 6/6 vision and no ocular complication or symptoms. Thus, an intact asymptomatic intravitreal cysticercus cyst can be kept under long-term observation without any surgical intervention.
