FP1413 : Role of Digital Social Media in Rural Eye Care

Purpose: To report the use of What’s app social media in the diagnosis and management of diseases seen at Secondary centers (SCs) of a pyramid eye health model.

Methods: “Kera-sat” group was formed with Cornea faculty of tertiary eye care centers (TCs) and the ophthalmologists posted at SCs. Diagnostic dilemmas, management and outcome of cases discussed is reported.

Results: A total of 50 cases were discussed in Kera-sat group, formed in March 2016, youngest patient being less than a year old. Two were referred to TC and rest were managed at SCs with the guidance from Faculty, thus avoiding the visits to TCs.

Conclusion: Use of digital media helped in management of the patients reducing the need to visit TCs thus reducing the economic burden for the patients.
