FP147 : Vitreous Rebleed Following Sutureless Vitrectomy; Incidence and Risk Factors

Dr. Tasneem Topiwalla, T17618, Dr. Prabhu Shanker M.

A Retrospective case series analysis was performed to report the incidence of vitreous rebleed(VRB) and its risk factors following sutureless vitrectomy in cases of diabetic retinopathy with vitreous haemorrhage. Demographic data of 190 patients along with risk factors like Blood sugar level(BSL),Blood Pressure(BP),anticoagulant use and whether pan retinal photocoagulation(PRP) was done preoperatively or intra operatively was tabulated. 41 patients (21.6%) had VRB of which 18 had early VRB (≤ 6 weeks) and 23 had delayed VRB (>6 weeks). 34 patients (82.9%) had high BSL and 28 patients (68.3%) had high BP and they developed VRB (p<0.01) after an initial haemorrhage free period. 8 patients (19.5%) were on anticoagulants and 15 patients underwent PRP intraoperatively and had VRB without any haemorrhage free period(p<0.01). No age or gender predilection found towards rebleed(p>0.05).So high BSL,high BP,anticoagulant use and lack of preoperative PRP were significant risk factors for VRB.
