PURPOSE: To describe a rare presentation of optic disc melanocytoma with serous macular detachment.
METHODS: A 25-year-old male presented with sudden onset blurring of vision in the right eye. Visual acuity was 6/60 in right eye and 6/6 in left eye. Anterior segment was unremarkable with no RAPD. Posterior segment showed blackish mass on the surface of the disc with blurred margins and serous detachment of the macula with intraretinal exudates. Fundus fluorescein angiography and OCT was done at the macula and optic disc. Patient was treated with 1mg/kg oral steroids and topical NSAIDS.
RESULTS: There was remarkable improvement in visual acuity from 6/60 to 6/6 in one week following oral steroids. The steroids were tapered in 3 weeks with OCT showing no subretinal fluid.
CONCLUSION: Serous macular detachment in optic disc melanocytoma is a rare benign entity with steroids being the main stay of treatment.
