A retrospective review of all the patients presenting to pediatric ophthalmology clinic with congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction between Jan 2005 and June 2013 were reviewed to identify those who also had amblyopia risk factors. Classification of amblyopia risk factors was done based on the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus referral criteria of 2013. Study yielded total no of 858 children with CNLDO. Of which 552(64.33%) were Male and 306(35.67%) were female. Mean age of presentation was 8.89 months ± 1.27 months. 156(18.18%) patients were found to have amblyogenic risk factors of which 98 patients had significant refractive error which was statistically significant, 24 patients had strabismus , 2 patients had Down’s syndrome, 2 patients had delayed developmental milestones, 61 patients had other ocular abnormalities leading to amblyopia .Our study suggests that children with CNLDO should undergo cycloplegic refraction and detail ocular examination.
