FP1724 : Clinical Course and Outcome in Patients with Mooren’s Ulcer Undergoing Cataract Surgery

Dr. Shilpa Das, D15602, Dr. Sangwan Virender S

Purpose: To report outcomes of cataract surgery in patients with Mooren’s ulcer.

Methods: A noncomparative case series of 22 patients (26 eyes) seen over a period of 15 years.

Results: Median age of patients was 62.5 years with bilateral disease in 17/22 patients. Mean peripheral corneal ulceration was 6.8 clock hours. Corticosteroids (topical and/or systemic) were most commonly (22/26, 84.6%) used to achieve pre-cataract surgery disease inactivity. Median inactivity pre-cataract surgery was 7 months. Median BCVA significantly improved from 1.48 logMAR pre-cataract surgery to 0.30 logMAR postcataract surgery (p<0.0001). Mooren’s ulcer recurred in 5/26 eyes (19.2%) post-cataract surgery between 3 months and 7
years.

Conclusion: With controlled inflammation, cataract surgery has favourable outcome in patients with Mooren’s ulcer.
