FP252 : Clinical Features of Patients with Thyroid Ophthalmopathy – Our Experience

AIM : To study clinical features of patients with thyroid ophthalmopathy. METHODS: Retrospective study of all patients presenting at our hospital with thyroid ophthalmopathy. Demographic & clinical features were noted. Managed medically and surgically. Data entry and analysis was performed.

RESULTS : Among all 24 patients were bilateral having age 39.50(±12.82) years. Male were 16(66.7%) & female 8(33.3%). 75% were Hindus & 31-35 year age group had highest incidence of 6(25%). Almost 42% had BCVA 6/6 & two (9%) nil VA. 67% had abnormal thyroid profile. Among all 75% needed medical management. (25%) lagopthalmos, (17%) lid retraction, (30%) had no features. 20(82.7%) had proptosis, exposure keratitis in 8.3%, corneal opacity in 12.5%.EOM involved in (21%). 75% needed no intervention but 16.7% needed tarsorrhaphy, 4.2% underwent evisceration with ball implant. Outcome was good in 96%, and fair in 4.2%.

CONCLUSION : Ptosis was the commonest presentation & mostly managed with medical care.
