Objective: To study efficacy of methotrexate compared to systemic corticosteroids for medical treatment of Eales’ diseases.
Methods: Retrospectively examined clinically diagnosed Eales’ diseases with specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. We documented anterior and posterior segment findings, investigation reports follow up records. We have divided medically treated patients for inflammatory stage in two groups corticosteroids and methotrexate. We documented all information in pre tested & statistical analyses done.
Results: Our cohort comprised of 74 cases with mean age 30 years & found final visual outcome > 6/12 (54.1%) 6/60 to 6/18 (18.9%) and 9 eyes achieved <1/60 at mean follow up of 592 days. We did not find significant difference in visual outcome between two groups.
Conclusion: Efficacy of Methotrexate is an equal when compared to systemic corticosteroids.
