Introduction: To report the possible causal factors associated with the rise of intraocular pressure (IOP) following paediatric Penetrating Keratoplasty (PK) patients.
Materials Methods: Case records were analysed from institutional registers of 36 paediatric patients undergoing PK due to varied indications between May 2006 to June 2011. Cases having rise of IOP (>5mmHg) in the post-operative period (at one month) measured by Non-contact Tonometry (CT-1P TOPCON) than preoperative reading were considered to be included in the study.
Results: Total length of surgery (>1.5 hours), presence of pre-existing glaucoma, pre-operative angle anomaly, syndromal association, need for associated interventions like cataract removal or trabeculectomy and repeat PK are associated with rise of IOP in the post-operative period.
Conclusion: The risk factors should be properly addressed in order to prevent rise of IOP in post PK paediatric cases.
