Postoperative fibrosis is main cause for trabeculectomy failure. To reduce fibrosis antimetabolite MMC was used but MMC has bleb related complications and to prevent these complications Ologen implant came into role.
Prospective, randomized study included 15 eyes in each group.Surgery was performed after thorough pre op evaluation which included visual acuity testing,IOP by Goldmans applanation tonometer,Perimetry by HUMPHREYS Perimeter,Gonioscopy and disc evaluation by +90 D lens. Results were compared by students & fischers test.P value of <0.05 was considerd significant.Follow ups were scheduled till 1year.study showed IOP reduction was more in ologen group at end of 1 week, but at end of 6 months and 1year IOP control in both group was same.MMC patients were more comfortable post operatively but had bleb related problems. In Ologen group patients had mild foreign body sensation with minimal complications showing Ologen is safe & efficacious alternative to improve trabeculectomy results.
