AIMS AND OBJECTIVES : To analyse the Central Corneal Thickness(CCT) in glaucoma patients & normal controls. To compare the CCT amongst various types of glaucoma patients
MATERIAL AND METHODS : Hospital based cross sectional study conducted on 100 eyes (50 cases and 50 controls).Cases included glaucoma patients.Controls were patients having refractive error or senile cataract but with no evidence of glaucoma.CCT was measured using an ultrasonic pachymeter.
RESULTS : Mean CCT in the cases group was 520.56 ± 32.62 microns whereas in the control group it was 514.68 ± 34.30 microns, the difference not being statistically significant. The mean CCT was significantly lower in NTG patients (498.28µm±31.33µm) and higher in OHT patients (550.22µm±30.54µm) as compared to POAG patients (523.75µm±13.96µm) .The mean CCT was significantly higher in OHT patients as compared to controls.
CONCLUSION : Inclusion of a CCT adjusted IOP will prevent overdiagnosis and undertreatment of patients.
