Aim: To determine the prevalence of Spheroidal degeneration of cornea (S.D.C) & its association with other eye diseases in the tribes of south-western Rajasthan.

Materials and Methords: 5012 patients were examined on Slit Lamp for diagnosis of S.D.C. as presence of Amber colour granules in the superficial stroma of peripheral interpalpebral cornea with increasing opacification, coalescence and central spread or nodular and surrounding stroma hazy & divided in three stages.

Result: Prevalence of S.D.C was 10.7%. 55% were found to have Stage I followed by Stage II (32%) & Stage III (13%). The prevalence in both male and female is greatest in over 70 year of age. Severity of S.D.C is more in men. S.D.C was significantly associated with Pterygium & Pseudocapsular exfoliation.

Conclusion: Extreme temperature, low humidity, dust, high wind and microtrauma with sand particles are the probable etiological factor of this type of degeneration in this region, resulting in higher prevalence.
