Purpose: To determine gold standard modality for investigating macular disorders.
Methods: 60 patients of macular disorders were subjected to OCT and FFA. All patients underwent slit lamp biomicroscopy, +90 D examination, Amsler’s grid charting, direct & indirect ophthalmoscopy . OCT and FFA was done in all cases.
Results : Analysis revealed 29 ARMD,18 DME, 6 CSC, 1 IPCV, 2 CME, 2 macular holes & 2 case of traumatic maculopathy. In 4 cases of ARMD,OCT revealed fibrovascular PED, while there was no evidence of SRNM on FFA. In cases of CSC, FFA revealed leak but on OCT, detection of serous PED’s and quantification of subretinal fluid was possible. In 18 cases of diabetic macular oedema, OCT was helpful in quantifying macular oedema & in assessing the results of therapy. In 2 cases of macular hole, FFA revealed window defect, while OCT was useful in classifying & deciding surgery.
Conclusion: We find that OCT & FFA are complimentary to each other in managing macular disorders.
