HIV/AIDS represent one of the most serious public health problems in North Bihar, attributable to spread from urban to rural areas and from high risk to the general population by the migrant labourers who move in large numbers to different states for the purpose of earning. High awareness among ophthalmologists about ocular presentations of HIV/AIDS may have an increased emphasis on early diagnosis, treatment and regular ophthalmic examinations in all HIV positive patients
AIM OF THE STUDY: To evaluate POSTERIOR SEGMENT MANIFESTATIONS in patients with (HIV/AIDS) in the A.R.T centre of D.M.C.H covering the peripheral rural area of North Bihar
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective study of 100 HIV positive patients was performed, who were referred from the A.R.T centre of D.M.C.H. A Detailed history and a comprehensive examination especially of posterior segment was performed.
RESULTS: Our study showed the prevalence of ocular manifestations among HIV positive patients as 48%.The most common manifestation was HIV retinopathy (14%
