FP640 : Corneal Collagen Cross- Linking (Cxl) for Keratoconus: Outcomes in Different Age Groups

Dr. Harshal Rathi, R15159, Dr. Venugopal V Anitha

Methods:A retrospective comparative study of keratoconus patients undergoing CXL and a minimum follow-up of 1 year.

Results:A total of 65 eyes of 54 patients were included. 28 eyes had age 18 years or less (Group I), 37 eyes had age >18 years (Group II). The baseline parameters (UCVA, BCVA Kmax, Kmin, spherical equivalent and cylinder value) were comparable in both groups.
Visual outcomes:
The mean UCVA and BCVA improved significantly in both groups. However, mean SE and the cylinder value decreased significantly only in group I

Topography:The Kmax, Kmin and corneal thickness decreased significantly in both the groups with no intra-group difference

Conclusion:CXL is effective in halting the disease progression in all age groups. Both groups showed similar response to treatment except for the SE and cylinder values, which decreased significantly only in <18 years, however final BCVA was comparable.CXL can be done safely in young. Cylindrical power decreases if CXL is performed early.
