FP674 : Effect of Corneal Collagen Cross Link on Endothelial Cell Density

Dr. Revathy Subramany, S14321, Dr. Hassan H Al Arrayed

Purpose :To evaluate the effect of collagen cross link (CXL) on endothelial density (ECD) in keratoconus patients

Method:Retrospective Non randomized study on 46 eyes who had CXL from 2010 to 2014. All had preop ECD of above 2500. Central Corneal thickness (CCT) ranged from 420 to 540u; Keratometry from 42D to 61D

Results:At 1 month follow up a significant reduction of ECD noted in 40% eyes. CCT reduction by 25u and keratometry decreased by 1D in 95% of eyes.At 6months, 76% eyes improved ECD to >2000, CCT reduction limited to 10u in all eyes; and 80% of the eyes had 2D decrease in keratometry. By 1year 80% eyes had ECD of >2000 & 20% had permanent endothelial cell damage who had thinner & steeper corneas preoperatively.

Conclusion:CXL procedure showed decrease in ECD irrespective of CCT ; 80% recovered in 6months duration. Permanent endothelial damage was highly correlated with preoperatively thinner and steeper corneas
