FP799 : Ocular Hypertension Following Intravitreal Anti Vegf Injection “Myth or Reality”

Dr. Debdulal Chakraborty, C10922, Dr. Angshuman Mukherjee

Introduction: Some studies have reported rise of intraocular pressure(IOP) in patients with Wet ARMD following use of of antiVEGF agents. Closer examination of the study design, of these reports, exposed fallacies that probably lead to ambiguity regarding the reason of IOP rise.

Method: Prospective interventional study of 256 elderly patients receiving multiple antivegf inj where glaucoma, its family history & factors that could predispose glaucoma had been excluded. Study was conducted in two tertiary care centres.

Results:201 patients completed the mandatory 1 year follow up. 3 patient needed IOP controlling medication. 2 further patients had ocular hypertension. The disc morphology & Visual field analysis was also not progressive and did not show any glaucomatous trend.

Conclusion:In the present study the use of anti VEGF cannot be attributed to the raised IOP seen in the 5(2.48%) patients out of 201 patients. As such declaring a cause and effect relationship may be too hasty
