BACKGROUND : ROP,a lethal prematurity complication, leads to blindness unless recognized. In India, with NCU advancement, large number of LBW premature babies are surviving and at increased risk of ROP.
INCLUSION CRITERIA :
GA≤34 weeks
BW≤2000 gm
31weeks post-conceptional/30 days after birth;whichever is greater
Preterm infant with risk factors of ROP
PROCEDURE : Eyes were dilated with cyclopentolate 0.1%+phenylephrine 0.1%-1 hour before IO with 20D lens.
RESULTS : Out of 50,44% have ROP(35 eyes).Stage- II (51.43%)>stage-I(20%).14.29% have APROP;11.43% have Plus Disease.Median onset of stage-I:33 weeks.BW≤1000 gm(42.86%)>1001-1500 gm(30%).Both APROP & PD was more in 1001-1500 gm(10.71%).GA<28 weeks(75%)>28-30 weeks(46.15%).APROP & PD was more in 28-30 weeks(15.38%).T-test analysis showed significance between occurrence of ROP with GA(p<0.05)& BW(p<0.05).
CONCLUSION : Incidence of ROP corroborates to other centres in eastern zonal India.ROP development found statistically significant with GA & BW.
