FP899 : An Unusual Case of Large Pigmented Corneal Ulcer

PURPOSE :To study the course of an unusually large pigmented corneal ulcer.

METHODS : A 70 year old male patient presented with OS pain,watering and dimness of vision since 3 months.Patient had history of trauma 3 months back.Patient’s BCVA was HM+ OS.On examination there was a corneal ulcer with pigment patch measuring 7.00 × 5.75 mm² in dimensions and 3 mm hypopyon.

RESULTS : Grams and KOH stain were positive for fungus.On culture Curvularia growth was reported.Patient was started on appropriate antifungals.On one month follow up,Patient was advised therapeutic keratoplasty in view of progressive(7.00 × 7.00 mm²),non healing ulcer with thinning inspite of medical treatment.Large size donor button was taken.On six months follow up,patient’s visual acquity was 6/60, graft showed no infiltrate,relatively clear.

CONCLUSION :Curvularia is a fungi associated with good visual prognosis with appropriate,timely treatment.Patient should be treated appropriately improve visual outcome.
