Introduction : Conventional treatment of amblyopia by patching of sound eye fails due to poor patient compliance.Hence,Alternative technique of minimal occlusion withH.B.stimulation of amblyopic eye studied.
Objectives : To compare efficacy of combination therapy of occlusion in good eye andH.B.stimulation in amblyopic eye v/s occlusion therapy alone.Materials and methods:A retrospective study of51amblyopic children from5to16years attending a tertiary hospital in Guwahati from Sept,2013to Aug,2015divided into2groups.1group received patching of the good eye,H.B.stimulation of the amblyopic eye with synoptophore, and other group received patching of good eye alone.TheVa ofB/E,binocularity and compliance of each patient was assessed3monthly.
Results : FinalBCVA between6/6and6/12for43 cases of51cases(90%).Final best binocularity maintained in 37 of 51 patients(60%), including 20 anisometropic, 7pseudophakic,14strabismic and10mixed group patients.Hence,Combination therapy found better than occlusion alone.
