Aim: To compare uncorrected near vision(UCNV) and contrast sensitivity of Unifocal IOL (UFIOL) and Multifocal IOL (MFIOL) in uncomplicated cataract surgeries.
Method: In a retrospective study, 9 eyes with MFIOL were compared in contrast sensitivity and uncorrected near vision (UCNV) with 15 eyes with UFIOL. The surgeries were done by a single surgeon in an uncomplicated eye with only cataract. The contrast sensitivity was tested using Pelli-Robson contrast sensitivity chart and near vision was tested using Snellen’s chart.
Results: In MFIOL group, 88% had UCNV of N8 or better, while in UFIOL group 0% had UCNV of N8 or better. The contrast sensitivity was 0.8% or better in 88% of MFIOL group while it was 0.8% or better in 93% of UFIOL group.
Conclusions: The UCNV was better in MFIOL group. The contrast sensitivity was slightly better in UFIOL group.
