IC192 – ROP: FACING THE STORM!

Dr. Vasumathy V [V07839] – Chennai

We are currently facing the third epidemic of ROP in the world thanks mainly to middle income countries such as India, which ranks number one in the preterm births globally. This instruction course covers the epidemiological aspects, pathophysiology, screening guidelines and techniques, including role of teleophthalmology, and treatment of ROP. Although ablation of the avascular retina with laser photocoagulation remains the current gold standard for treatment of ROP, the newer therapeutic options including vascular endothelial growth factor antibody administration, gene therapy and supplemental therapies would be discussed by
experts in the field with take home points. Pearls of surgical management of stage IV and V ROP will be discussed with videos.
